Much of the borough of Tunbridge Wells is in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). With a high degree of landscape protection, and a relatively low housing density, the borough is one of the most naturally appealing in the county. The landscape is typified by wooded hills ('hursts') and steep, secluded valleys ('dens') with fast flowing streams ('gills').  The area was host to one of the first industrial revolutions, in Roman times, due to the availability of iron, wood and fast flowing water.

Hot issues:-

• The proposed forest sell-off by Government has cause a lot of concern locally, particularly in regard to Bedgebury Forest which is well loved and used by the public.
